1. What we collect
When you use CivicCars we may collect: identity information (name, date of birth, photo, government ID details), contact information (email, phone, suburb), vehicle and listing information (VIN, rego, photos, descriptions), payment information processed by our PCI-DSS compliant payment partners, and usage data (device, IP address, interactions with the marketplace).
2. Why we collect it
- To verify your identity under our Verification Pack and prevent fraud.
- To run PPSR checks against your VIN.
- To facilitate buyer–seller communications inside CivicCars.
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, scams, and platform abuse.
- To comply with our obligations under Australian law, including AML/CTF where applicable.
- To improve the marketplace and tailor relevant insurance and finance referrals.
3. Who we share with
We share data with: our identity-verification provider, the PPSR registry operator, Stripe (payment processor), our hosting provider (Cloudflare), and law-enforcement when required by court order or to investigate active fraud. Insurance and finance partners only receive your information when you click through and submit a quote — never before.
4. CivicTrustAU ecosystem
CivicCars sits inside the CivicTrustAU ecosystem (CivicCars · CivicTrucks · CivicBikes · CivicBoats · CivicCaravans). Your CivicPoints balance and verified identity may be shared across these brands so you don’t re-verify. Listing data is not shared between brands.
5. Storage & security
Personal data is stored on infrastructure within Australia where possible. Sensitive identity documents are encrypted at rest. We retain identity verification records for 7 years to comply with anti-fraud obligations.
6. Your rights
- You can request access to or correction of your personal information at any time.
- You can delete your account; some records (verification, transactions) are retained for legal compliance.
- You can opt out of insurance/finance partner emails from inside Account > Notifications.
7. Cookies
We use strictly-necessary cookies for login sessions and CSRF protection, and analytics cookies to understand how the marketplace is used. You can clear or block them at any time in your browser settings.
8. Contact & complaints
For privacy questions or to make a complaint, email privacy@civiccars.com.au. If you are unsatisfied with our response you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
